SUSTAINABILITY AND ETHICS

SLOWING FASHION DOWN SINCE 2015

We need no reminders of the impact of the fashion industry on the planet. We're constantly trying to better ourselves to stay ahead of the curve for both sustainability and ethics.

BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

HUGGING TREES

Order note cards, tissue paper, and business cards are all made from recycled, recyclable card.

Our swing tag and stickers are currently not made of recycled stock, but can still be recycled. Once we use up our existing batch, they will be replaced with recycled stock.

Furthermore, we're proud partners of One Tree Planted, and every order shipped plants one tree.

Packaging

There will never be plastic in Of Elizabeth packaging.

On the order note is a story written by our founder, and on the reverse is a print drawn by a local artist. This was done to encourage clients to hang, frame, gift, or use it in some way instead of throwing it out.

Each set that leaves our Toronto studio comes packed in either recycled, recyclable tissue or a cotton twill dust bag. No plastics to be found here.

MANUFACTURING

We've partnered with a factory in the EU, and it's there that each Of Elizabeth garment is made by a team of skilled craftswomen. Each person in our process is paid a living wage and works in safe and clean conditions. This particular studio pays above the average wage for a seamstress, and features renovated facilities.

REDUCING WASTE

The small-batch nature of our production means that we don't make too many of something very often, and we never throw away clothing. We also promote careful consumption by not having frequent sales. Since our pieces are constructed to last, this means less need to buy new items, and less waste going into a landfill.

INTEGRATING ETHICS INTO OUR DESIGN PROCESS

Read on to discover how we start each collection with sustainability as the forefront of our decisions.

QUALITY

On our garments, each seam purposefully added and stitched to perfection. We pride ourselves on concealed seams, as well as concealing parts of the bra that can look unsightly and old quickly. This keeps the bra looking newer for much longer, and it's especially comfortable.

ADJUSTABLE SIZING

Since we offer adjustable sizes, we don't get left with hard-to-sell sizes at the end of a season. Not only does this make finding the right fit a whole lot easier, it also lowers our return and exchange rate. For instance, if you bought a 36D but you'd prefer a 34DD, you don't need to exchange or return the garment and start the order process all over again. All you need to do is adjust the straps! This also allows for weight fluctuations.

FABRICS

We often buy 'deadstock' fabric, leftovers from mass manufacturing that would otherwise be thrown away. We also choose natural fibers over manmade ones whenever possible, which reduces the use of environmentally-damaging dyes, and resource-draining plastics.
